The Rapid Fire Book Tag
I found this book tag on Rachel Ann Writes and it looked like a fun tag to do.
I love doing these tags! It’s a great way to think about books and reading in an other way.
E-BOOK OR PHYSICAL BOOK?
E-Book, I’m always reading multiple books at once (right now I’m reading 7 different books). I like to change between them a lot, so an e-reader really helps with that. I can take hundredths of books with me and have the freedom to choose.
I do love Physical books and I do read them sometimes, they also look really pretty on a bookshelf. But if I have to choose I would pick e-books.
PAPERBACK OR HARDBACK?
Paperback, The only reason is the price. I’m super cheap and it leaves me with more money to buy other books! But if it’s a collectors item I will most likely buy it as a hardback. Those dust jackets can be real works of art.
ONLINE OR IN-STORE BOOK SHOPPING?
Online, I love spending time in a bookstore, but I live in Belgium and a lot of the books in bookstores are translated to Dutch. I read almost all my books in English (expect when they were published in Dutch) so I don’t find many books in bookstores.
TRILOGIES OR SERIES?
Series. It’s so frustrated when the perfect series ends after three books! there’s so much potential! Don’t stop now!
HEROES OR VILLAINS?
Heroes, this is a difficult one! In most books the main character is the hero. So, I’m going to choose the hero because you get to know the main character better than all the other characters in a book.
A BOOK YOU WANT EVERYONE TO READ?
Strange the Dreamer! If you haven’t read it yet and you love YA fantasy with just a tiny bit of perfect romance in it; GO READ IT NOW, THERE IS NO GOOD EXCUSE TO NOT READ IT RIGHT NOW!!!
RECOMMEND AN UNDERRATED AUTHOR?
Molly Ringle, I read The Goblins of Bellwater earlier this year. I got it from Netgalley and it was released on October 1st. It’s the perfect mix of evil goblins, magic and romance.
THE LAST BOOK YOU FINISHED?
Full Tilt by Emma Scott, omg, all the feels!
WEIRDEST THING YOU’VE USED AS A BOOKMARK?
A balloon, an none inflated one of course. It’s actually not that weird because it fits perfectly and it stick a bit to the pages so it doesn’t slide out.* It would get really weird when you use the string of an inflated balloon as a bookmark. If I ever have to courage to read It by Stephen King I would definitely do that!
* Isn’t it the worst feeling ever when you feel like reading and you’re so happy because you have a few minutes to spare and you can read! But suddenly you notice your bookmark fell out of the book. And you just spend all the time you could have been reading in search of the right page. Don’t forget all the anxiety it creates! There is a high possibility that you read a gigantic spoiler in your search for that lost page!
USED BOOKS: YES OR NO?
Yes, recently bought some used books. If they are not to “loved”* too much, it’s a great way to save some money. A book is a book if you ask me. It’s also a good feeling to know that this book wasn’t a waste of paper. It’s such a shame that some books just sit on their shelf without ever being looked at again.
* we all now those books who have been loved for a long time and have these strange, suspious coloured spots…
TOP THREE FAVOURITE GENRES?
Fantasy, there are never enough dragons, goblins, wizards… in a book. The enormous worlds that can be created in books are so incredible. This genre will probably always be my favourite genre. Never enough magic!!
Romance, I actually don’t go for books that are only romance that often. I love romance as a side story. Just take a good genre and add some romance to it and there is a big chance I will love the book more. Of course I can love books without romance, it just gives that little extra to a story.
Thriller, There’s nothing like a book that has you on the edge of your seat the entire time. It’s a difficult genre to do right. A lot of those books are only thrillers at the last 10% of the book. The first 90% is often quite boring.
BORROW OR BUY?
Buy. Because our library doesn’t have much books I like. They tend to be a little bit late with the best sellers and they only have a small section of English books. The rest are translated. Another reason is because I like to read on my e-reader, and they don’t lend e-books.
CHARACTER OR PLOT?
Character, There is nothing that can annoy me more than a bad character. If they are dumb or they complain a lot, I just want to trow the book against a wall! Plot actually does’t matter that much to me, it obviously is important, but I can enjoy any well written book in any genre. And I think I care about it less than the average person.
LONG OR SHORT BOOKS?
Long books, I love detailed books and I love getting to know a character better than you now yourself even more. You just can’t get to know a character in 200 pages. Details tend to get lost in short books, a lot of the times there are things that don’t add up. I have to admit that series that continue to go on and on and on (I’m looking at you Outlander) are my fetish.
NAME THE FIRST THREE BOOKS YOU THINK OF
Harry Potter (all of them), Strange The Dreamer and The shining.
BOOKS THAT MAKE YOU LAUGH OR CRY?
The last book that made me cry my eyes out was Full Tilt by Emma Scott. It’s like the fault in our stars for adults.
I don’t read many books that make me laugh, but earlier this year I read I Need a Lifeguard Everywhere But the Pool by Lisa Scottoline and it was super funny!
OUR WORLD OR FICTIONAL?
Fictional, there are so many things that you can’t achieve in our world. Huge travel stories like The Lord of The Rings or Eragon for example, they just wouldn’t look right in our world. A fictional world can have it’s own laws of nature and a completely fictional geography or weather type. Maybe it’s escapism, I don’t care, but it’s just so much better.
AUDIOBOOKS: YES OR NO?
Yes. I always listen to audiobooks in the car. they can make me relax when I’m in heavy traffic. I don’t even care any more if I’m standing still for half an hour because I can listen to a story in the mean time. It’s also perfect at the beach when I just want to lay in the sun and don’t want those weird neck tan lines I get when I read in the sun.
DO YOU EVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER?
All the time! When a book has a beautiful cover I will immediately have high expectation about the book. Sometimes this will lead to extreme disappointment (I’m talking about you, Caraval!). But sometimes a book just doesn’t fit it’s cover. That’s why I love Goodreads. Look at the cover of Burn for Me, it looks like cheap porn to me. But the book is completely different than you would expect! Everyone on Goodreads said that it was the worst cover ever for such a good book, and they were right! Thank you Goodreads.
BOOK TO MOVIE OR BOOK TO TV?
Book to TV. I’m not big series or movie watcher. So if I decide to watch something, I want it to be something I know I will love and I don’t want to spend much time deciding what I’m going to watch. Series are perfect for that because it’s the media type that just keeps on giving. If the first couple of episode were good I’m sure I’ll love the rest and I can spend the next year enjoying a season.
A MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU PREFERRED TO THE BOOK?
Definitely The Vampire Diaries. I was in love with the TV series a couple of years ago and I got the first book as a birthday present. I was very exited but I don’t know how they made such a good TV shows of those books. It was a completely different story and Caroline was just plain annoying.
SERIES OR STAND-ALONES?
Series, it’s much harder for me to love a stand-alone. There’s much less time for me tennoo get to know all the characters and start to really appreciate them.
