Title: Iron and Magic
Author: Ilona Andrews
Publisher: NYLA
Release date: June 26th 2018
Genre: Fantasy Romance

Summary:

No day is ordinary in a world where Technology and Magic compete for supremacy…But no matter which force is winning, in the apocalypse, a sword will always work.

Hugh d’Ambray, Preceptor of the Iron Dogs, Warlord of the Builder of Towers, served only one man. Now his immortal, nearly omnipotent master has cast him aside. Hugh is a shadow of the warrior he was, but when he learns that the Iron Dogs, soldiers who would follow him anywhere, are being hunted down and murdered, he must make a choice: to fade away or to be the leader he was born to be. Hugh knows he must carve a new place for himself and his people, but they have no money, no shelter, and no food, and the necromancers are coming. Fast.

Elara Harper is a creature who should not exist. Her enemies call her Abomination; her people call her White Lady. Tasked with their protection, she’s trapped between the magical heavyweights about to collide and plunge the state of Kentucky into a war that humans have no power to stop. Desperate to shield her people and their simple way of life, she would accept help from the devil himself—and Hugh d’Ambray might qualify.

Hugh needs a base, Elara needs soldiers. Both are infamous for betraying their allies, so how can they create a believable alliance to meet the challenge of their enemies?

As the prophet says: “It is better to marry than to burn.”

Hugh and Elara may do both.

Review:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

My love for everything book written by Ilona Andrews continues. Let me say first that all the “negative points” about this book are all very minor. It was just an amazing book and I loved reading this so so so much.

Hugh and Elara need each other for there people, but they also really hate each other. I love these kind of stories were two go from hate to love, if it’s exacute well. Of course it would be a great story if Ilona Andrews wrote it! The story would have been interesting even without the love story. This world is so detailed and original. There are millions of interesting stories waiting to be put in a book. I also love it’s set in a world we already read so much about and it just feels so fresh.
This book has just the right amount of romance to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

One tiny thing I didn’t like as much were the main characters.
Normally, the one thing I like the most about all the Ilona Andrews books I read, are the characters. Elara is the first character I just totally couldn’t connect with. She also felt a bit too “all powerful”. I love a good bit of girl power, but this was a bit much. The same happened with Hugh. He just was a bit too much strength for one guy. I still want to learn more about her, because I feel like there is A LOT we still need to find out about her.
I understand why they didn’t like each other, but the hate felt a bit random at times. “I decided I wasn’t going to like you, so I’m just going to act like that even if it’s not really necessary. Like I said in the beginning, this was actually a minor thing, because they were still great characters, just not as great as their other characters.

Overall I am a big fan of this book ans I think everyone should just try one of their books. If you haven’t read the main series this book is based on, you should be completely fine, it’s better if you read the Kate Daniels series, but it’s perfectly readable if you haven’t!

Tell me what you think!
